About us: The Peer-Partnership association

Welcome.

Here you can find a brief introduction to the Peer-Partnerhip Association and those of our activities with a broader relevance.

About us:

The Danish NGO, Peer-Partnership Association, was established in 2018 by two national mental health organizations rooted in civil society: The Social Network and SIND (the Danish Association for Mental Health).

Our purpose is to support people with mental health issues by improving access to peer support in Denmark, while also expanding the knowledge base regarding peer support. Our goal is to foster hope and empowerment through experience-based support and mutual learning for people in distress or recovery. We believe that peer support provides a distinct yet equally important alternative to conventional mental health approaches.

We achieve this by:

  • Developing and evaluating new peer-based interventions and methods
  • Forming partnerships and fostering collaboration nationally and internationally
  • Building national capacity
All our activities are rooted in our own lived experience and the values of peer-support.

Our organization

Our organization is primarily project-based, with our board serving as the governing body overseeing project direction and strategy.

Main activities

Since 2011, we have worked to integrate peer support throughout the country in collaboration with municipal and regional mental health services.

When working locally our primary focus is community-based voluntary peer support. Since 2018 we have developed the intervention Paths to everyday life” and documented it’s effect through a national RCT. The intervention is a co-peer-led manualized 11-week group course for people with mental health difficulties facilitated by two voluntary peers. The focus of the course is on everyday life, well-being, and personal recovery. We are currently spreading Paths to everyday life” nationally through a social investmening model.

When working with formalized peer support services i the public sector, we mainly support and provide training for management, mental health professionals, and employed peer workers. We do this in collaboration with relevant partners. We focus primarily on:

  • Strengthening the national understanding and deployment of peer-support
  • Advocacy
